Spider-Man flees the ship when the crew (who still believe that he had something to do with the hijacking) crowd around him. He changes into Peter Parker in the water and pretends that he needs to be rescued. He manages to convince Mary Jane that he was knocked overboard, however, he fails to convince Flash Thompson, who is becoming suspicious of Peter's double identity.  After phoning Jameson to report that Spider-Man saved the cruise and that he got pictures of Spider-Man's fight with the Tarantula. While he showers in his apartment later, he doesn't hear Harry sneak into his room and snoop around for his Spider-Man costume. When Harry finds it, he is convinced that Peter is really Spider-Man and quietly leaves.   At midnight, Spider-Man meets with the Punisher at their designated meeting place, where the Punisher shows Spider-Man slides of the Tarantula telling Spider-Man of his origins: How he was a member of freedom fighters in a South American country, however, his violent ways had him kicked out of the group of revolutionaries. The Tarantula would eventually change sides and be turned into his countries answer to Captain America to fight the revolutionaries. However, his love of violence would get him in hot water with his leaders again, and so he had fled the country to the United States, where he set himself up as a mercenary.   With Spider-Man briefed, the two go after the Tarantula attacking his safe house, the Punisher with the help of Spider-Man defeats the Tarantula and his men. After they have been bound up, the Punisher bids farewell to the wall-crawler. Checking in on his Aunt May, he accidentally startles her when she sees Spider-Man in the window.   Returning to the city, Spider-Man is attacked by the Black Widow, they have a brief battle where the Widow gains the upper hand and ropes up Spider-Man. However, Spider-Man manages to break free and gum up her venom-sting bracelets with his webbing. However, before he can do anything else she flees the fight. Later she decides that she was wrong to try and get the secrets to Spider-Man's powers, and that her own abilities are unique to her and that she should forge her own destiny.   Finally, Spider-Man begins to get very ill and returns home. He then gets into Daphne's room, where she tells him she has discovered the children were Dwarves and she is forced to wear ancient clothes. On the wall there's a portrait of a girl who looks exactly like Daphne. Batman breaks the lock and opens the door of the room in order to leaves the room. However, he steps outside the room into a hallway and he falls through a trapdoor into a net.  The Elder Heathrow and his men bind Batman's hands and he is placed on a stone with a noose round his neck. In about a quarter of an hour it will drop into the cellar and Batman will be hanged. He tells Batman that as Daphne was born at precisely midnight on October 31st he will sacrifice her to summon the demon Ballk, which his family has waited six generations to do. He claims an ancestor of his did so also and the spirit of the sacrifice walks these halls. When he is left to die, Batman tenses his neck muscles to prevent strangulation and by swinging catches a torch with his feet and burns through the rope. He proceeds to free his hands on the flame and he goes outside of the building. In the dark grounds of Gothos Mansion, he sees a girl he mistakes for Daphne but she says she is not her. She leads him to the coven in an old chapel and he finds himself loving her.   Inside the chapel, Daphne is bound and gagged, standing on the altar while the coven chants. She is forced down and the Elder prepares to slay her with a pitchfork. However Batman enters and puts an end to the sacrifical ceremony. As the coven attacks, he throws the Elder to them and they run out. The Elder dies and Batman deduces that his heart couldn't take it. Batman unties Daphne, telling her to go to the mansion as he goes out to meet the girl that guided him, but she says in besting the coven he has freed her and disappears into the night. Finally, Batman finds the image of the girl similar to Daphe fixed to a tree. HELP ME ... I THINK I'M DEAD! The following day, Bruce Wayne receives a letter in the mail. Killer Moth wants him to pay $100,000 or else he will murder him. Bruce consults with Dick Grayson and the two lay a trap for Killer Moth. That evening, Barbara Gordon leaves the library where she works. She has acquired a rare book that she intends on selling to Bruce Wayne. As she arrives at Wayne Manor, she finds Bruce lying dead in his study, with Killer Moth and his goons hovering above him. She hurriedly changes into Batgirl and leaps into the study. She fights off all three men at once, but once again, they succeed in escaping. Batman and Robin appear and tell her that the body of Bruce Wayne is actually just a dummy. They were laying a trap for Killer Moth in the hopes of tracking him back to his lair, but Batgirl spoiled their plans. When they wake up, they realize that the cross-town jaunt has taken them over an hour. Further, Ralph deduces that they are in a different cab than the one they first got into. Sensing a mystery, the Elongated Man pursues the taxi back to its garage. He finds that the Sleepytime Cab Company is run by a con man named Beejay. Galactus continues to assemble his planet devouring device and the Watcher explains to the Fantastic Four what will happen to the Earth if Galactus succeeds. The Watcher explains that there is a device aboard Galactus' ship that he will need the Human Torch to collect. While back at Alicia's apartment, Alicia learns of the Surfer's mission on Earth and appeals to him to turn against his master and help save the Earth. He is hesitant at first, but is starting to feel pity for the humans.   When the Fantastic Four begin attacking Galactus' almost completed device, the planet eater sends his robot Punisher to keep them out of his way while he repairs the device. At the end, the planet where they were itself exploded and Thanos had captured Drax.Back to the montain, Iron Man manages to escape from the Blood Brothers, but before he could release Drax, Thanos captures him again. Meanwhile in Titan, ISAAC susceeds on finding Drax, and then Mentor sends a magnetic pulse throwgh the space that reaches the chest plate of Iron Man's armor and releases Drax. Iron Man and Drax defeat the Blood Brothers but Thanos again shows up, but when Iron Man punches him, they realizes that it was only a robot. The four monsters then are met by the sight of the Starseed, a golden giant straddling a huge golden horse.Starseed explains that he is the last of his race, prehistoric humans who were more advanced than their savage cousins. They had developed a civilization upon the mountain, but their peace was shattered when alien invaders killed the leaders, and hauled the mountain into space. Over the millennia, the survivors hid and stole alien technology until they were able to slip the grasp of their captors, and head back to their world. But now the Starseed is the only one left.Giving in to their predatory natures, the Werewolf and Morbius attack the god-like being. Ghost Rider and Man-Thing both try to aid the Starseed, and they throw off the two assailants. However, Starseed's wounds fill him with fear, and the Man-Thing's touch burns his arm. Ghost Rider's attention turns from Morbuis to the Man-Thing, whom he knocks away with his motorcycle, then he confronts the Werewolf who has attacked the Starseed again.Dying, the golden one demonstrates what could have been when he briefly lift the monstrous curses the four suffer, and they revert to Ted Sallis, Jack Russell, Michael Morbius and Johnny Blaze. But the Starseed cannot maintain the dream, and the Werewolf, the Man-Thing and Morbius return from whence they came.
